Back in the studio sifting through all my reference photography from many, many recent walks in the countryside. Particularly taken with the acid greens of the moss I've observed. What an exciting morning @thebritishengineerium seeing the new sculpture unveiled for the @wildinart trail coming to Brighton next year. SO happy that the charity partnership is with the incredible @amazesussex - They do fantastic work supporting young people and their families.

I've enjoyed painting these so much. I've been dipping in and out of working on them in between commissions and have found the natural grain on these panels perfect for the subject matter.
Love the size of them, and since visiting the incredibly inspiring Jenny Saville exhibition @nationalportraitgallery recently, I'm definitely eager to go louder, bigger and gooier with paint! 😁

Clocking up some hours making this big boy (120cm x 80cm)
I forgot how long the process is when you make your own stretchers. There's the neat little pocket holes to make, the gluing, clamping, agonising that it's not on the wonk and then onto the cutting and tacking of the canvas, melting the rabbit skin glue (imitation, don't panic!) and giving it all a few coats to seal and prime.

A spontaneous bank holiday walk at 'Wilding Waterhall' turned out to be timed perfectly to capture some gorgeous low light through the trees. I love making forest paintings and particularly enjoy the focal point a tree tunnel creates in a composition. I think there are some goodies to work from here.

Ahhh these pics popped up today as a reminder of the 2018 @wildinart trail for @martletshospice in Brighton. These gorgeous snails brought a lot of joy to our city and helped raise vital funds for the hospice. Can't believe it was 5 years ago!
With the next trail just around the corner, I can't wait to show you how I have chosen to decorate my Shaun the sheep sculpture......Not long to go! Watch this space for more clues and updates....
